Innovation and manufacturing transform women's lives

One in three women around the world deal with adult incontinence, but no one talks about it. It is more taboo than the effect of the menstrual cycle. Past incontinence offerings deliver a product so close to diapers they virtually strip away every bit of a woman’s confidence and femininity. Design Central and Procter and Gamble partnered to develop a solution that allows women of all ages and body types to live life to the fullest.

Always Discreet Boutique eases the stigma of incontinence:

The Always Discreet Boutique incontinence line extends the Always brand promise by empowering women with performance and beautifully designed protection. A close partnership of designers, technologists, engineers, R&D and manufacturing specialists led to a solution that resembles underwear more than any other product on the market.  Cues from the fashion industry informed the soft color palette and slim profile to fit women’s unique shapes, style preference and need for comfort.  The product makes women feel confident they are protected from leaks and odor and delivers the right fit across a wide demographic.

Research reveals women’s need for a better solution:

Design Central partnered with the Always team to hear insights from women around the globe to inform the design. They told us that incontinence affects every part of their lives. The team was taken aback to hear each woman’s story and to understand each situation, habit and compensating behavior. Women are avoiding social events, intimacy and even stop drinking water during the day to prevent accidents. They don’t enjoy wearing the bulky, uncomfortable products that were previously on the market. Our challenge became to return women back to normal life, to give them back a sense of confidence and femininity and deliver a design solution through the Always brand promise.

Technologies combine to build brand equity

With manufacturing processes in mind, our designers worked to intentionally shape non-woven and elastic materials into functional layers that are thin, flexible and stretch better than traditional fabric. This, combined with an integrated, absorbent core delivers a contoured fit and flexibility without bulk to provide superb fit, absorption and breathability, setting a benchmark in the category. Design Central worked to understand the process surrounding the manufacturing of The Discreet Boutique line to successfully challenge and set new manufacturing standards with P&G, a win in the high-speed, highly complex mass-production environment.
